This presentation speaks about the readiness of Drupal in the education vertical globally.

As of September 2011, 26.7% of all .EDU domains globally run using Drupal content management system. MIT and Harvard are among the early adopters. There are even Drupal based distributions for use in educational institutions, being sponsored and rolled out by these institutions. One such product is: http://openscholar.harvard.edu/.
