Design process for websites, portals and web apps

Product conceptualisation

Often our customers come to us with portal or web application ideas they are extremely passionate about.

Srijan gets engaged into the process during this ideation stage itself, and with the aid of iterative Powerpoint  presentations, helps bring clarity and focus to brainstorming sessions to evolve the product ideas and concepts.

Keeping the User at the centre of design decisions

There is no perfect user. User-centric design (UCD) is about identifying the user(s) and then keeping them in mind while taking any functionality or design decisions. This helps bring objectivity to the design and functionality of products rather than allowing them to the personal preferences of marketing or technology stakeholders of the product.

Use of Wireframes as a Systems Requirements Study (SRS)

Srijan recommends the use of sketches leading to detailed wireframes as an extremely effective way of building products, as opposed to long, boring and often incomprehensible SRS documents.  Wireframes with some User-Interface elements are exciting as programmers can start relating to them very quickly (as it is most programmers hate reading and writing documents; they prefer to do things).

Here's what the Basecamp people think about:

Choosing the right framework for programming

Srijan is basically an open source company, and our platforms for technology implementation are always from the open source domain. PHP, Ruby and Python based frameworks and content management frameworks, such as Typo3, Drupal, Seagull, ATK, Django, Ruby on Rails (RoR) are most often the choices. Mono.NET, is also a framework we have chosen earlier to write some apps.

Getting Real

Srijan recommends its customers to read this excellent book on the smarter way to build successful web applications.

In many ways, Srijan follows the successful practices mentioned in the book.
