First TYPO3 and Apache Solr search implementation goes live
0 Comment(s)Jul 16, 2009
On Friday, 10 July 2009, Srijan's first Apache Solr implementation on TYPO3 went live at www.ede.nl, the website of Municipality of Ede, Netherlands - a customer of our Dutch partners - Netcreators BV. Some minor code cleanup is underway.
Srijan's tryst with Apache Solr Srijan's tryst with Apache Solr started in 2008 when Jacob Singh (now known as one of the Apache Solr Musketeers at Acquia) then a remote contractor with CivicActions, consulted with us to help our team adopt Drupal and SCRUM practices. We were (believe it or not) "writing" a search for the India Environment Portal, as the default Drupal search was not working for the customer's requirements. Jacob introduced us to Apache Solr and helped in the implementation for this Drupal portal that we were setting up. Then came a series of other implementations for OPEN magazine (a news and features magazine portal in India; the Drupal based public site to be launched in a couple of days), and recently for a TYPO3 site for Swedish Bible Societies.
Opportunity with 'Municipality of Ede' Netcreators have lately been using the mnoGosearch for their integration with TYPO3. Some of us had been pushing Ben at Netcreators for exploring Apache Solr as an alternative. The opportunity came with their customer's website - Municipality of Ede, Netherlands. Several features were suggested to be built-into the search and a sponsorship was organised by the Municipality.
Access to the code We're not yet ready to release the search in the TER. However, the code being cleanedup is available at https://svn5.cvsdude.com/srijan/community/Typo3/trunk/ncst_solrsearch/. To access the code repo, login with the details below: User: srijan_community Pass: srijan Write to us to get a personalized demo of the search in action with its features.
Future developments Srijan and Netcreators are collaborating to design features for a Phase-II release. Dr. Gora Mohanty, would be shortly writing a detailed article on features of the current and future releases of this Apache Solr and TYPO3 extension. Stay tuned! We're looking for sponsors for funding the further developments. Please write to us if you're interested in supporting the development.
Partnership with Netcreators Srijan, India and Netcreators, Netherlands recently signed a partner agreement to collaborate with each other in executing projects, business development, technology exchange, and improving management and HR practices.
